"Postcards from Myself" - an exhibition of works by the Hobart Clinic Association, for Mental Health Week

Art is one of the most therapeutic mediums for the expression of emotions and recovery. The value of simple art expression such as colouring-in is well documented and also evidenced by the numerous mindful colouring-in books you can currently see in almost every newsagency, department store and bookshop. The Hobart Clinic Association’s Creative Arts Program participants are encouraged to explore their creativity through such mediums as Zentangles, pencil and pen & ink drawings, watercolour and acrylic paintings. Art teacher, nurse and counsellor, Jenny Kyng has introduced a mindfulness element to the program- encouraging everyone to be more “in the moment”. Participants have shared how powerful creative art has been for them in reducing stress and in helping them maintain positive mental health.

As part of the 2016 National Mental Health Week’s “Mental Health begins with Me” project, inka gallery is pleased to present this exhibition of works by participants in the 2016 Creative Arts Program. Curated by inka member artist Lana Nelson the exhibition will feature a diverse range of works including acrylic paintings, pen & ink drawings, Zentangles, archival pigment prints and art cards.
